Russia strongly opposed supplies to Ukraine any kind of weapon, lethal, defensive as the border between these types of weapon is blurred, said RIA Novosti, first Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on defense and security Frants Klintsevich.
On Sunday, President Petro Poroshenko said that the question of U.S. supply to Ukraine lethal weapons is not, and Kiev expects deliveries of defensive weapons. The President expects the United States will take a decision on granting Ukraine “defensive weapons” in the current budget year.
“As a military man would say that today the concept of “defensive weapons” is a relative term… the Position of Russia is absolutely certain: we are strongly against arms deliveries to the country where there is a civil war,” — said Klintsevich.
According to him, Poroshenko’s “pretty disingenuous, emphasizing the fact” that he asks the Americans defensive, not a lethal weapon.
“We cannot ignore the so-called psychological moment. These supplies will be perceived by Kiev as a confirmation of the correctness of its course in the Donbass, which further destabilizie the situation,” — says the Senator.
Klintsevich noted that the issue of possible supplies to Ukraine American weapons should be considered in close conjunction with other problems in Russian-American relations. “I think that it will rise our side that way, if the supply really will become a reality,” he said.
Russia has repeatedly warned against plans arms deliveries to Ukraine, because this step will only lead to the escalation of the conflict in the Donbass. As repeatedly stated the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, the supply of weapons to Ukraine from the outside will not contribute to resolving the crisis in the Donbas and the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
