They met in may 1931. Then, Nicholas Murray (Nickolas Muray) had already divorced his second wife, Frida Kahlo a couple of years was the wife of Diego Rivera. But that has not prevented the ensuing novel to last ten years.
Murray was one of the most famous photographers of his time, a pioneer of color and commercial photography. In 1920-40-ies he has made more than 10,000 portraits, working with Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Ladies’ Home Journal and The New York Times.
Although Frida did not want to marry him, Nicholas was one of the most important men in her life. Their affair lasted until 1941, and a friendly relationship Murray kept with the artist before her death. These vivid portraits of Kahlo he did in the 1930-40-ies.
