The Russian President said that every citizen has the right to run for elections.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he was unaware about media reports of possible female candidates for the post of President of the Russian Federation, but to run and everyone can, if complied with the statutory requirements.
“Everyone, in accordance with applicable law, has, if he passes the requirements of the law, has the right to stand as a candidate. Within, again, the current law”, – Putin said at a press-conference on results of participation in the BRICS summit.
According to the Russian leader, he was unaware of reports relating to possible women candidates. Putin also did not evaluate who did a better job with this role, for example, journalist Ksenia Sobchak, Chairman of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina or the Chairman of the accounts chamber Tatyana Golikova.
Putin noted that with respect to the father of Ksenia Anatoly Sobchak, without exaggeration, considers him an outstanding figure in modern Russian history, a decent man. “The man who has played in my life a big role. But when it comes to run for President, things of a personal nature can not play any significant role,” – said the Russian leader.
Earlier media reported that the administration of the President of Russia looking for a rival to Vladimir Putin in the upcoming elections to show some sort of alternative. Among the possible candidates were women, including Ksenia Sobchak
