Pushkov suggested that the United States return Texas to Mexico

MOSCOW, 5 Jan – RIA Novosti. Senator Alexei Pushkov commented in his Twitter the words of the former commander of US ground forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges of belonging of the Crimea Russia, inviting Washington to return to Texas, Mexico.

Earlier, a us General in an interview with “Apostrophe” is called the “false and unacceptable” the “claims” from Moscow to the Crimea and southern Ukraine, since before the reign of the Empress Catherine II of Russia “was not there”.

Pushkov said that during the reign of Catherine II of the Ukrainian state did not exist, and the Crimea could not be Ukrainian.

“And the United States was in 1783 by a narrow strip of land along the Atlantic – later, all the rest captured. Let’s return Texas to Mexico” – wrote the Senator.

From the end of XV century the seaside towns and mountain part of the Crimea became part of the Ottoman Empire. The rest of the Peninsula was owned by the Crimean khanate – vassal of the Ottoman Empire. The Russo-Turkish war of 1768-1774 put an end to Turkish domination over the Crimea, and on the Treaty of küçük Kaynarca of 1774 the Ottomans renounced its claims to the Peninsula. In 1783, the Crimean Peninsula by decree of Catherine II was annexed to the Russian Empire.

In 1845 the US annexed the Republic of Texas and recognized it as the 28th state of the United States. Thus, the United States inherited the territorial dispute between Texas and Mexico, which quickly led to the Mexican-American war in which the U.S. captured additional territory extending the boundaries of the country up to the Pacific ocean.
