According to the district Commissioner, Siaya Josephine of Onunga, about 20 young people tried to seize the station during a peaceful rally in the town of Bondo in South West city, forcing officers to open fire.
Police also used tear gas to disperse small demonstrations in three major cities of Kenya – Kisumu, the capital of Nairobi and the port city of Mombasa, which took place despite the government’s ban on rallies in the urban centres. Hospitals reported that in Kisumu, during a rally injured about 20 people.
The Supreme court of Kenya has cancelled the presidential election in August, citing procedural irregularities and the cancellation of the victory of President Uhuru Kenyatta. The decision, which opens the way for a re-vote on October 26.
