Portugal can’t put out forest fires

The only way out of the European Union.

Portugal asked the EU for help in fighting forest fires, which do not cease in the country.

The Minister of internal Affairs of the country Constanta Urbana de Souza sent a formal request to the EU with a request to increase the number of fire aircraft and attract to extinguish more fire. The decision was taken as a precaution in connection with a poor prognosis.

So, the authorities fear that high temperatures and strong winds in coming days may increase the number of fires.

Saturday, August 12, the country reported a record for this year, the number of ignitions 268. Fight fire 6.5 thousand firefighters. A state of emergency was introduced in the district of Coimbra and several municipalities in the Central part of the country.

According to the European Union, this summer in Portugal, burned more than 140 thousand hectares of forest, more than three times the average for the last 10 years. In June, the fire raged for days in the municipality of Pedrogao Grande (Leiria district), has claimed the lives of 64 people.
