Poroshenko visited Khmelnitsky NPP

Measures for NPP safety in Ukraine strengthened 10 times, the President said.

Measures for security of nuclear power plants amplified ten times, said the President Petro Poroshenko at a meeting on issues of atomic energy development in the town of Netishyn, Khmelnitsky region on Monday, March 18.

“I can say that security measures increased 10 times. And we are ready to bear responsibility for security from terrorist threats, and threats from terrorist attacks from land and air space, nuclear power plants. Although in 2014 the situation was much worse,” – said Poroshenko

He stressed that the state enterprise NNEGC Energoatom is possible to implement the decision of the national security Council and is taking measures to counter potential threats together with security service and National guard.

During the meeting Poroshenko also said that the priorities in the energy sector are the construction of power units №3 and №4 of the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant, plant for production of nuclear fuel, reduce the proportion of fuel from Russia, as well as the energy bridge with the European Union.

He noted that currently the process of diversification of nuclear fuel proceeds without any loss in quality and the cost of production, and focused attention on the fact that in 2018 the third power unit of South-Ukrainian NPP was the first unit that was fully translated into fuel the American company Westinghouse.

“The next strategic step in the delivery of fuel is supplies to Ukrainian nuclear power plants nuclear fuel of its own production… I am Sure that this is a very ambitious and timely task since we are talking about creating a part of Energoatom’s own plant for producing nuclear fuel,” – said the President.
