President Petro Poroshenko submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law aimed at the development of inclusive education in Ukraine.
The bill provides for the education of persons with special educational needs in secondary schools that are most convenient for the child and close to his place of residence. Also for the first time at the legislative level, defines the terms “person with special educational needs”, “individual development program” and “corrective-educational and psycho-pedagogical services.” The bill provides funding for the education of persons with special educational needs at the expense of subventions from the state budget to local budgets, according to the website of the President.
Poroshenko urged deputies to support in the coming parliamentary weeks this draft law. He called the bill extremely relevant, noting that in Ukraine 10% of children require consideration of their peculiarities in the educational process.
Inclusive education is co-education and education of children with disabilities and children without such limitations.
