It should be a penalty, according to Ukrainian legislation, the President said.
President Petro Poroshenko believes that the incident with the ex-head of the Odessa regional state administration Mikhail Saakashvili on the border should have no political and legal assessment.
“In my opinion, this incident absolutely does not require any political commentary. We comment solely in the legal field. On 26 July I issued a decree that terminated the citizenship of Mr. Saakashvili on the basis of the submission of the Central Executive authority – the State migration service, where he was clearly transferred to the presidential Administration proven facts of falsification and filing false information when obtaining citizenship. The President could not accept any other solution, because that would be criminal negligence”, – he said Monday before the meeting on the issues of rural medicine.
According to the President, Saakashvili had to challenge his decree in the Supreme administrative court. “I do not like the decisions of Ukrainian courts – is the European court of human rights”, he added.
Instead, said Poroshenko, Saakashvili resorted to the military option and crossed the border illegally.
“I don’t care who violates the state border, the militants in the East or the politicians in the West. There should be clear legal responsibility,” he said.
He also stressed that to understand the incident has law enforcement officers, and they have already begun to do so.
“I hope that this gentleman will in due time and with the same eagerness to get to Georgia, as he tried to get to Ukraine”, – said Poroshenko.
