Petro Poroshenko: Territorial sovereignty is the prerogative of a national referendum.
The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has allowed the holding of a national referendum on Crimea, but only after the Peninsula will be returned to Ukraine.
“I’m ready for everything to fulfill the norms of the Ukrainian Constitution. In our Constitution there are separate rules for the referendum. Both local and national. Territorial sovereignty is the prerogative of a national referendum. But before we begin to discuss it, Crimea should be returned under the sovereignty of Ukraine, and then we are ready to hold any negotiations… in accordance with the provisions of the current Ukrainian Constitution,” – said Poroshenko.
October 10, in an address to the PACE deputies, Czech President Milos Zeman said he believes that Russia’s seizure of Crimea “completed thing” and offered to “legitimize” the annexation of Crimea and pay Ukraine compensation.
However, as emphasized by Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, Zeman’s statement sharply at odds with the foreign policy adopted by the government of the Czech Republic.
11, President Poroshenko also criticized the “Crimean” initiative Zeman.
The Autonomous Republic of Crimea was illegally seized from Ukraine in the spring of 2014 as a result of planned Moscow a special operation to total destabilization of the country after the revolution of Dignity.
The Verkhovna Rada official start date for the occupation of the Peninsula by the troops of the Russian Federation was established on 20 February 2014.
