The Ukrainian Chapter met with US special envoy on 27 October in Kiev.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with the special envoy of the President of the United States Ukraine with Kurt Volker. About it reported in a press-service of the President of Ukraine.
“The interlocutors discussed the situation in security matters in the region and noted the critical importance of ensuring proper implementation of the Minsk agreements, especially in terms of consolidation of a sustained and comprehensive ceasefire, the withdrawal of Ukraine from the Russian occupation troops and equipment,” – said the press service.
It is also noted that Walker and Poroshenko talked about unlawfully detained in the occupied territories of Ukrainian hostages and political prisoners in prisons in Russia.
“Special envoy of the President of the United States was transferred to the corresponding address of the members of the families of the hostages and expressed hope for his effective support, especially in contacts with the Russian side with a view to their early release and return home,” – said in the message.
U.S. special envoy noted that Ukraine adheres to the principle of peaceful settlement of the conflict in the Donbas. This is evidenced by an approved Law of Ukraine “On creation of necessary conditions for peaceful settlement of the situation in certain districts of Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine”.
The parties also discussed the schedule of talks in the Normandy format and in the framework of the Walker. Dates of meetings and negotiations have not yet been published.
Earlier it was reported that the main topic of the meeting in Belgrade, Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov and special envoy of the US state Department in Ukraine, Kurt Volker, October 7, could be options for the withdrawal of Russian occupation troops from the Donbass.
