The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed the law On national security, which will contribute to the rapprochement of Ukraine with the EU and NATO.
“We strongly emphasize the course of Ukraine in NATO and the EU, the determination of our actions in the modernization of the sector of defence and security. Confirm that the Ukrainian people have clearly decided their future – in the circle of European peoples,” wrote the President on Twitter.
June 21, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the second reading the presidential bill On national security.
Among other things, the law changes the structure and management of the Armed forces and other security agencies in Ukraine, resulting in sector reform national security and defense in accordance with NATO standards.
The document also defines the membership in the European Union and NATO-fundamental national interests of Ukraine.
The document was prepared with involvement of experts of NATO, the EU and the US, reported earlier the Secretary of national security and defense Oleksandr Turchynov. According to him, the law should be “a key instrument of reform in the sphere of national security” and will help to implement the standards of the Alliance in Ukraine.
Under the bill, expenditures on the financing of security and defence should be at least 5% of the planned GDP, of which at least 3% in the funding of the defence forces.
