Poroshenko has asked Canada to share intelligence about Russia

The head of state appealed to canadian Prime Minister with a request to resume transmission of satellite images of the Russian border.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said in an interview with CBC that he called the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau to resume the program, providing the Ukrainian military with satellite imagery to monitor the movement of Russian troops in the Donbas.

The head of state noted that “it may help in the implementation of the Minsk agreements and give evidence that Russia has deployed its tanks, artillery and multiple rocket launchers”.

CBC notes that Ukraine has already addressed a similar request to the former canadian government. Earlier, Poroshenko had persuaded former Prime Minister Stephen Harper to transfer images from Radarsat-2 during the year, from March 2015. The program ended in the spring of 2016 at the initiative of the canadian side.

However, the President of Ukraine on the visit to Canada suggested that he could persuade the government to change its position.

“I have no doubt that we will solve this question”, − he stressed.
