President Petro Poroshenko and the newly elected President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier during a telephone conversation on Wednesday, March 1, discussed the renewed escalation of Russian aggression in the Donbas. About it reports a press-service of the Ukrainian President.
Special attention was paid to the aggravation of the humanitarian situation in the area of Avdeevka, where militants hybrid of the Russian army continues to shell civilian targets and, in particular, block access to filter plant that threatens the water supply of the whole region.
Poroshenko also expressed the expectation that in March will be extended the so-called Crimean package of sanctions against Russia.
In addition, the parties welcomed progress made by the Council of the European Union, the European Commission and the European Parliament progress regarding visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens and expressed hope that this issue will be formalized in the near future.
Poroshenko also congratulated Steinmeier with a confident victory in the presidential election and invited him to visit Ukraine for a visit.
“During my tenure as Minister of foreign Affairs of Germany You were a real friend of Ukraine. It is a reliable basis for the further development of friendship between our peoples already in Your new, presidential quality,” – said the head of state.
This Poroshenko noted the leading role that Germany and its political leadership played in the process of restoring sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
