“Today, the Ukrainian Oleksandr Kolchenko turns 28. Unfortunately, he is forced to meet that day in the dungeons of the Kremlin. We continue to fight for your freedom and all Ukrainian hostages. Ukraine with you, Alexander,” – said Poroshenko.

As reported, Kolchenko in the colony were forced to take Russian citizenship. The prisoner “brought a Russian passport,” and he was asked to sign a receipt, but Alexander refused.

In April last year there appeared information that the Ukrainian prisoners in Russia are prepared to exchange. Russia, in turn, were required to give six Russians convicted in Ukraine, in order to serve their sentences at home.

At the same time, the Ukrainian prisoner of the Kremlin Kolchenko was not even allowed to study by correspondence. The Ukrainian side had intended to address this issue to the Ombudsman of Ukraine and the OSCE.

We will remind, the Ukrainian Director Oleg Sentsov detained by FSB officers in Crimea in spring 2014. It was transferred to Russia, where he was tried on trumped-up charges of organizing terrorist attacks and arson of party offices on the Peninsula.

In December 2014 the Prosecutor General of Russia stated that Sentsov is a citizen of the Russian Federation, since after the annexation of the Peninsula, he allegedly expressed the desire to maintain another citizenship. A Russian court on 25 August 2015 sentenced. to 20 years imprisonment in a strict regime colony. In the same case Kolchenko was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
