Physicists have created a record of complex quantum computer

Физики создали рекордно сложный квантовый компьютерPhysicists announced the creation of programmable 51-kubango quantum computer.

The Russian-American team of physicists has created a programmable 51-Kubany quantum computer at Harvard University. This researchers reported at the conference ICQT, held in Moscow.

This is the most complicated such system existing was created under the leadership of Mikhail Lukin, co-founder of the Russian quantum center and the Harvard Professor.

The authors tested the performance of a computer simulation of a complex system of many particles – this allowed physicists to predict some previously unknown effects.

Quantum computers operate on a special type bits – qubits. In contrast to classical bits, these logic elements can be simultaneously in a state of “zero” and “unit”, giving in the measurement of one of them with a known probability.

This allows to develop fundamentally new algorithms of calculations, which in some cases are much more productive than classic.

There are several platforms which are developed on the basis of quantum computers. Basic is a superconducting quantum qubits and cold atoms in optical traps.

Most complex programmable universal system to date has been the computer 17 superconducting qubits, developed by IBM.

The authors of the new work has improved the result three times, creating a computer on cold atoms held in optical tweezers. It is noted that the new machine is fully programmable 51-Kubany quantum computer.

The performance of the system, the researchers tested a couple of experiments: computation of the behavior of complex systems composed of large numbers of particles associated with quantum and classical computer.

The authors note that these tasks are extremely complex and practically unsolvable for traditional systems.
