Scientists assume that part of the earth’s atmosphere brought the comet.
Experts have suggested that it could appear a few billion years ago. The results of their research are published in the publication Nature Communications.
The researchers conducted an analysis of air particles, which are preserved in water bubbles and quartz formations dated to three billion years. It turned out that in the investigated air samples is a rare form of xenon U-Xe. It is noted that in this form there is no substance in the mantle of our planet. In meteorites it also does not contain what the experts concluded that to get to the Ground substance could only with comets, and before the atmosphere fully formed.
Prior to this, the experts have learned that comets may carry large clusters of ice, which in turn are sources of oxygen. They have an important role in bringing life to the planet, because oxygen environment is a suitable habitat for plants and cyanobacteria.
Scientists hope to learn more about the ways of the origin of the gases on the planet, studying ancient rock samples.
