Parliament approved the quotas of the Ukrainian language on TV

The document will come into force four months after publication in the official Gazette.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted the draft law on the establishment of language quotas on TV. For the document No. 5313 in the second reading and in General voted 269 parliamentarians at the meeting on Tuesday, may 23.

The bill comes into force four months after publication in the official Gazette. During the first year of the law, all programmes, parts thereof, wholly or partially created or funded broadcaster, will be counted in the quota of the state language. Thus want to support the national manufacturer.

For violation of the language quotas broadcaster faces a fine of 5% of the total amount of license fee a license issued in accordance with a broadcasting license.

The document stipulates that the national broadcasters for the broadcast category, the share of transmission and/or films in the Ukrainian language shall be not less than 75% during the day in each of the time periods from 7.00 to 18.00 and from 18.00 to 22.00. In this case, for the relevant thereorganization regional and local categories of speech is expected to set a compulsory share at 50%.

Separately, a mandatory share of news broadcasts in the state language, namely at least 75% of the total duration of all news broadcasts in each of the time periods from 7.00 to 18.00 and from 18.00 to 22.00.

The document also clarified the rule for calculating the share of transmission and (or) performed in the state language. In particular, it is provided that the films and programs that are not own product, broadcasters and performed in a national language must be subtitrovannoy in the state language.

In addition, it establishes that the transfer is completed on the state language, if all the replicas of leading made in the state language. This allowed the use of other languages without duplication and to speak out when reports from the scene, the comments of the invited persons, etc.
