Panasonic has introduced solar panel for car roof 2017 Prius Prime
Shortly after Toyota announced the forthcoming appearance of the installation options solar car roof in the 2017 Prius Prime, CEO of Tesla Elon Musk announced that Tesla Model 3 may also will have the option of a sun roof.
In the 2017 Prius hybrid Prime will use the solar roof on the basis of the PV module Panasonic HIT Panasonic, the main supplier of solar cells and batteries to Tesla.
A new product called HIT Photovoltaic Module for Automobile, adapted for use in the 2017 Prius Prime, was presented to the Japanese company earlier in the week in Osaka.
Sun roof, power 180 W allows to charge the battery of the power unit and the 12 V car battery. According to the chief engineer of the Prius project Toyoshima koji (Koji Toyoshima), solar roof enhances the vehicle’s efficiency by 10 %.
This option is currently not available for vehicles delivered in the United States, as reinforced sheet material currently used for solar panels, here has not passed crash tests rollover. The company is reportedly working on a solution to this problem, but the timing of its elimination is not yet pointing.
Panasonic has already signed a contract with Tesla to supply solar panels to cover the roofs of houses, but would like to expand the use of its technology for cars.
