Experts analyzed 133401 taking medications for diabetes, heart disease or stroke. Of them 7423 patients were also appointed painkillers to alleviate such conditions as migraine and back pain. It was found that people were 95% more prone to obesity if they had used pain relievers along with treatments for heart disease, diabetes and stroke. These people are also 82% more likely to have a very large waist circumference and 63% more likely to suffer from high blood pressure.

Painkillers have a sedative effect, slowing down the metabolism and reducing people’s desire to exercise. These drugs have also been associated with insomnia and impaired nocturnal breathing, which in turn increases the risk of obesity.
