20-year-old tennis player from Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko in the status of the 47-th racket of the world became the winner of tournament of series Grand slam.
Ostapenko made his debut in the final major, and her opponent Simona Halep was trying his second attempt to become a champion of Roland Garros. An additional motivation for the Romanian woman was the fact that in case of victory she would become the new first racket of the world.
In the first set Halep active actions won only one ball, but 23 unforced errors from Ostapenko allowed the flavor of the final to take the lead.
In the second set Halep quickly took 3:0, and in the fourth game Simone had three break points. Ostapenko miraculously protected his serve and started a big comeback. Latvian three times in a row took the flow Halep, but in the ninth game at zero filed for Seth.
The deciding set was also very dramatic – Simona Halep, leading 3:1, lost five games in a row and parted with hopes of becoming champion of the tournament series Grand slam.
For Elena Ostapenko title at Roland Garros debut in singles. Sensational champion earned 2.1 million euros in prize money and 2000 ranking points that will allow it to become Monday the 12th racket of the world.
