An international team of archaeologists have discovered in the Ferghana valley, a new settlement of the Great silk road.
As reported by N+1, the archaeologists have found a settlement the size of Monaco, that is about two square kilometers.
Excavations were carried out by scientists in the past two years. Before starting the excavations, archaeologists are using drones equipped with the technology of Real Time Kinematic, fixed the height of the terrain in the monument and around it. This allowed to identify the remains of tombs and craft workshop within the city walls. Their presence proved that the monument had a permanent local population, and was not only for billeting.
As the researchers note, two thousand years ago the settlement was an important city associated with the Kingdom of Xishuangbanna Dai. A country known for its thoroughbred horses and transit points in the larger territory of the Great silk road. Today, he is the most promising place to study the process of mutual influence of Chinese and European civilizations at the turn of our era.
