The letter of decision of London transferred to the EU President Donald Tusk.
Wednesday, March 29, the UK officially started the procedure of withdrawal from the European Union.
This was announced by the President of the European Council President Donald Tusk on Twitter.
The process is started by a special letter, which was signed by the Prime Minister of great Britain Teresa may and which informs Brussels about the involvement of Britain 50th article of the Treaty of Lisbon with the aim of entering the European Union. It was delivered to the British Ambassador to the EU, Tim barrow.
Article 50 States that every EU member has the right to make the decision to leave him. This requires to formally inform the decision of the European Council and to start the negotiation process. The approval procedure can take up to two years, after which membership is automatically terminated, but this period may be extended by mutual decision of the Contracting parties.
That is, theoretically, the UK will formally withdraw from the EU in March 2019.
