Russia will send their military advisers to another African country – Namibia, uranium and diamonds. This is one of the most economically developed countries in Africa and the continent’s largest exporter of uranium. The economy of Namibia is based on mining and processing of natural resources.
On the eve of the summit “the Africa – Russia” in Sochi the President of Namibia, Hage Gottfried Geingob, meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that his country is interested in Russian military advisers. “The military asked me to tell you that they are interested in the help of Russian military advisers,” – said Geingob Putin. He noted that not only in the military field, but also in the field of energy relations between Russia and Namibia are “not on such a high as I’d like” level. “But we as friends can do it,” – said the President of Namibia.
Moscow military already trains nearly 40 African countries, including with the help of mercenaries from “PMC Wagner.” Its influence in Africa, Russia is strengthening with the help of a whole Arsenal of tools – from weapons and energy deals to secret military and political support. In 2014, Russia signed agreements on military cooperation with dozens of African countries. The Kremlin has been active in the Central African Republic (CAR), Libya, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Mali, Niger, Rwanda, Chad, South Africa… Send them military experts requested Burkina Faso, Mauritania, and most recently mercenaries and equipment from Russia have arrived in Mozambique to adopt the Russian military is prepared and Nigeria. Cooperation between Russia and Namibia, of course, is not limited to sending military specialists. Russia intends to make the territory of Namibia uranium fuel, and to cooperate on projects in the diamond complex in this country.
“An important part of the interaction (in energy) can be a mineral, in particular, the uranium resources of Namibia,” said Vladimir Putin, President of Namibia, Hage Gottfried to Gangabu. He reminded that Russia is a world leader in the field of nuclear energy and nuclear fuel production, and Namibia is the largest uranium producer.
According to Putin, Russia is very interested in “such a direction of cooperation as joint exploration sites potentially rich in vanadium, copper, gold, other minerals.” “There are potentially interesting suggestions in the diamond industry,” – said the Russian President, noting that Russia’s largest producer of rough diamonds, ALROSA is ready to discuss with Namibia these questions.
In addition, Russia plans to begin “construction of ground infrastructure for air travel”, cooperation in hydropower and agricultural sector. In Russia is expected to import Namibian agricultural products, and put back the meat and fish products, grain and fertilizers.
On the eve of Russian President Vladimir Putin held bilateral meetings with a number of African leaders. Issues discussed at these meetings were the same. The summit “Russia – Africa” held in Sochi on October 23-24, jointly chaired by the presidents of Russia and Egypt. It was attended by 43 heads of state and governments and another 11 States represented at the level of Ministers and ambassadors. All are invited to the event about 10 thousand participants.
In parallel with the summit economic forum, which is attended by heads of States, business representatives and government agencies.
According to the plan of the organizers, the summit must demonstrate “a return of the greatness” of the Kremlin on the continent. Moscow is ready to challenge in Africa the influence of the United States, China and the European Union, including the military.
