Near the Chernobyl NPP planted special trees

Ukrainian scientists have planted in the settlements in the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant saplings of trees that can absorb radionuclides.

About a hundred of Empress tree as seedlings (Paulownia Clone In Vitro 112) planted in abandoned villages Paryshev, illinets’ka Rudnya, Kopachi and the city of Chernobyl.

The purpose of this research experiment to study the effect of this type of tree on background radiation in the exclusion zone. It is known that five years later, the Paulownia reaches an average height of 20 meters and faster than other trees absorbs radionuclides.

In this way the Ukrainian scientists want to clean the soil of radioactive substances.
