NATO to strengthen presence in the Black sea

NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg stressed that the decision is of a defensive nature.

NATO decided to strengthen its presence in the Black sea, said the head of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg.

“We will increase the presence in the Black sea, but it will be a defensive presence, and in any case not intended to be a provocation of conflict or tension is one element in the increase of the defense forces of NATO”, – he said at a press conference in Brussels.

He stressed that all actions will comply with international obligations and the Convention of Montreux.

Earlier, Stoltenberg said that the countries-members of the Alliance agreed with U.S. demands to increase defense spending. According to him, Lithuania and Romania have pledged to increase defence spending to 2% of GDP in the near future.
