The reason for this decision of the Alliance became the Russian-Belarusian exercises Zapad-2017.
The Alliance will freeze before the end of the year, the Council NATO−Russia, the newspaper Izvestia, citing Russian diplomatic sources.
It is noted that the pretext for this step was the Russian-Belarusian exercises Zapad-2017, which took place from 14 to 20 September on the ground in Belarus and in the Kaliningrad, Leningrad and Pskov regions of the Russian Federation.
“Council Russia−the NATO until the end of this year is frozen at the initiative of Brussels. Apparently, one of the main reasons were the teachings of the Russia-Belarus Zapad-2017. The Baltic countries-NATO members have repeatedly tried to freeze this format. They were supported by Britain. However, despite this decision, the communication channels continue to work”, − said the publication of one of the interlocutors.
At the permanent mission of Russia to NATO confirmed that the date of the next meeting are unknowns.
