NATO commented on the Ukraine blocking Russian sites

The Alliance officially reacted to the decision of Kiev to introduce sanctions against several Russian sites.

The decision on blocking of Vkontakte, Classmates and some other Russian sites lies in the plane of national security, not freedom of speech and access to information. This opinion was voiced by NATO spokesman in comments to the European truth.

“The Ukrainian government has made clear that this decree is a safety issue, not freedom of speech,” said NATO.

The representative of the Alliance recalled that NATO cooperates with Ukraine in its reform process, including in the field of democracy, rule of law and human rights.

“Freedom of speech is covered by this dialogue. We believe in the devotion of Ukraine to its international obligations, and the fact that the country has a system of checks and balances,” said NATO.
