Tests on mice showed that nitrate, found in high quantities in spinach, increase the production of two key proteins in muscle strength.
Researchers from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden noted that the same level of nitrates can be obtained from beet or salad, only eat them had more than spinach.
A team of scientists fed mice a spinach and examined their physical condition. After a week of “spirtovoi diet” the researchers found that the muscles of animals on the limbs strengthened and increased.
It turned out that therefore, the condition of the muscles affected by the nitrates that are contained in spinach.
Now scientists hope to use the results of this study to implement new treatments for people with weak muscles.
In addition, spinach is a host of other useful properties. It contains iron, useful for anemia and can also speed up the recovery of patients who suffered a heart attack.
