Named the main dangers of teenage obesity

Scientists from hospital of the Karolinska Institute analyzed data from more than 1.2 million men from Sweden.

Professionals interested in how the body mass Index (BMI) at the age of 17-19 years affects the risk of liver disease in the future. The researchers recorded 5281 case of severe liver diseases, including 251 cases of cancer of the liver.

It turned out that the extra weight at the age of 17-19 years increased the likelihood of developing liver disease later in life by 50%.

Men, who during the study developed diabetes mellitus of the 2nd type was also more prone to liver diseases (regardless of their starting weight).

In volunteers with obesity and diabetes of the 2nd type, the risk of liver problems was three times higher than in those without obesity and diabetes. Experts warn that the obesity epidemic may lead to an increase in the number of cases of severe liver disease.
