The Parliament adopted the law stipulates that children who go to school from 1 September 2018, will have the opportunity to study in their native language only in elementary school – the first four years. In fifth grade, all subjects should be taught in the Ukrainian language.

Muscovite indicates that this is contrary to the law “On national minorities in Ukraine”, the European Charter for regional or minority languages, framework Convention for the protection of national minorities, the Declaration on the rights of persons belonging to national or ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities, the Convention for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, the bilateral treaties of Ukraine with Moldova, Romania and Hungary, as well as the Constitution of Ukraine guaranteeing the right to education in their native language.
