Microsoft predicts popularity of smartphones folding

Microsoft believes that the most popular format of smartphones in the next few years will be a “horizontal clamshell”

Microsoft has expressed its opinion on the further development of the smartphone market and paid special attention to the device with a folding casing. Management believes the software giant, it is the future of devices of this kind, that is connected with growth of demand for gadgets with larger screens.

In Microsoft say that the screen sizes of smartphones continue to increase, and soon they will occupy the entire front panel of a traditional desktop, which will eventually lead to the need to increase the size of the case. In this case, producers will either have to sacrifice ergonomics or to change the form factor, and it was then foldable smartphones will come to light. Microsoft believes that the most popular format of smartphones in the next few years will be a “horizontal clamshell” with two screens on interior panels. When closed the screens are adjacent to each other and thus not exposed to external factors, and when you open the case they form a single large display.

As of the end of 2017, the horizontal folding is in great demand among consumers not using and are niche devices, especially modern range represented by only one mobile – ZTE Axon M. At the same time, the form factor is not new or unique: at the end of the last decade, many major players of the time, including LG, have experimented with horizontally folding phones, and sometimes even smartphones, in which there was no second screen on the inside panel, but was a hardware QWERTY-keyboard.

Microsoft does not undertake to say when exactly an era of foldable smartphones, but a Corporation may contribute to its development, because she now works on the mobile Phone Surface, which is attributed to a fold-out case.
