September 19, Orthodox celebrate Michaelmas (mykhailove Chudo). In the folk calendar is the feast of the Archangel Michael, one of the most revered biblical characters.

The word “Archangel” means “senior envoy” and his name (in the original it consists of three words “Mi ka El”) literally means “Who is like God?”.
In Christianity, the Archangel Michael is called the Archangel and is revered as the head of the Holy host of angels standing guard the law of God. Thus, he is considered the patron and ally of Christians who oppose the forces of evil.
Also Michael is called the protector of the souls of the dead, since he moved to heaven the soul of Abraham and the virgin. He also, according to legend, guards the gates of heaven. The Archangel Michael was made to go with the prayers for healing from all sorts of ailments. It is connected with the worship of the Archangel as the winner of the evil spirits, who were considered a source of disease. The name of St. Michael is often called the healing springs.
In Russia this day was arranged worldly braccini — gatherings, which solved a variety of family and neighborhood Affairs. After conversations, which are often passed in disputes and quarrels, gave feasts to which everyone brought their dish. At the table usually occurred reconciliation and fraternization. Just year happen two large braccini — Michael and Nicholas (19 December).
On this day, pay attention to the weather. If the day is warm, it means that autumn will be long.
Started the first frosts. “Michael frost picked up”, — said the people. If after mikhailovskie frost on the trees there is a hoarfrost, we had to wait for the heavy snow in winter.
