Europe can no longer “completely independent” from the US and the UK after the “breccia” and elect Donald trump President, said the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel.
According to Merkel, she wants to have friendly relations with both countries and also with Russia, but, in her opinion, Europe now has to fight for their future.
The Chancellor made the announcement after the summit “the Big seven” has failed to come to consensus on the findings in the 2015 Paris agreement to combat climate change. Merkel called the negotiations very difficult.
President trump said that he would take a decision on the fate of the Treaty of Paris next week.
“The days when we could completely rely on others leave. I felt it myself in the last few days,” said Merkel at a campaign rally in Munich.
Angela Merkel also said that the priority now is to Berlin relations with the new President of France Emmanuel Macron.
According to public opinion polls in Germany, Merkel will likely be re-elected for a fourth term according to the results of the General elections in September.
