Weekend last week, to put it mildly, has not worked. Sunday died the “father” of the zombie genre George A. Romero, and the day before, on Saturday, died in hospital 89-year-old veteran of the acting profession Martin Landau.
Landau born June 20 1928 in Brooklyn (NY, USA) and before to go the acting path, he worked as a cartoonist. His actor career began in the 1950s, actively appearing on television and in the movies. Fans of the genre’s most memorable role in the film “ed wood” by Tim Burton for the role of legendary Hollywood horror actor Bela Lugosi, Landau has received many awards, including “Oscar”.
At the same time “ed wood” was not the first Landau’s work with genre cinema. In 1959, he starred in the Thriller Alfred Hitchcock’s “North by Northwest”, in the 1980s appeared in “Fall of the house of usher” and the TV series “the twilight zone”. In the 1990s, you could see Landau in the film “the x-files: fight the future”.
In 2012, the actor has again worked with Tim Burton, this time on the animated film, “FRANKENWEENIE”. Among the relatively recent role of the Landau – picture of Atom Egoyan’s “Remember” (2015).
The actor died at 13:30 Pacific time at UCLA Medical center after a brief hospitalization, where he suffered unexpected complications.
Rest in peace, Mr. Landau.
