MEPs voted to lift the parliamentary immunity of the leader of the French party national front, marine Le Pen.
The decision was made by a majority vote – show of hands and passed with overwhelming majority in favour.
In the EP resolution States that “since article 26 of the Constitution of the French Republic provides that no member of Parliament may not be subject to criminal or penal execution, seizure or any other measures depriving or restricting liberty, without the approval of Parliament, and given that the competence of the European Parliament is not to speak about the possible guilt of the Deputy, and about the appropriateness or not of criminal prosecution for the actions which is imposed, the decision to remove the immunity of marine Le Pen”.
The request for the lifting of the parliamentary immunity was submitted by the Prosecutor of Nanterre.
