YouTube channel BBC Earth published a video that shows how spider Darwin (Caerostris darwini) produces a multimeter “bridges” from the web.
This species of spider is able to produce a long thread that is picked up by the wind and extends to 20-25 metres, which allows them to cross rivers and to create the impressive size of the network trap.
Despite the huge size, the web is durable enough to withstand the weight of the spider.
Fiber in its ability to deform without compromising the integrity of the web exceeds that provided by other arthropods.
Spiders of Darwin was discovered in Madagascar in 2009.
