Lutsenko told about the fight against “the amber mafia”

Lutsenko said that the operation to eliminate the “amber mob” continues.

The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko on April 18 during a briefing in Rivne region told about the results of the fight against “the amber mafia” in the region in the past year and stated that the fight against it continues.

18 April 2016 Chief military Prosecutor’s office General Prosecutor’s office of Ukraine has registered criminal proceedings on the fact of creation and activity in territory of the Rovno region criminal organization with the purpose of receipt of illegal benefit for the smooth implementation of the extraction of raw amber.

14 February 2017, the Prosecutor announced the completion of a pretrial investigation in the criminal proceedings and opened a criminal proceedings of six suspects and their defenders for acquaintance.

The attorney General said that during the implementation of pre-trial investigation was conducted of 183 search, during which revealed the cash and the jewels of gold, weapons, amber of various fractions, means for obtaining amber draft accounts and scheme of distribution of funds. It was also conducted over 200 undercover investigation.

“In addition, the results of the preliminary investigation, criminal charges were brought against 31 persons, of which in relation to 25 individuals the courts handed down convictions that came into legal force,” – said Lutsenko.

The attorney General added that during a pretrial investigation, one person voluntarily told investigators that he participated in the Commission of crimes by criminal organization and has stated its readiness to support the investigation. The Prosecutor concluded with this entity an agreement on the admission of guilt, court conviction. The plea deal also concluded a number of people.

Lutsenko also said that among the suspects who are acquainted with the materials of production:

– former Deputy Prosecutor of the Rovno region;

– the former head of the local Prosecutor’s office Sarny of Rivne region;

– the former head of the Dubrovytsky Sarny Department of the local Prosecutor’s office in Rivne region;

– the former employee of Management on fight against organized crime of General Directorate of Ministry of internal Affairs of Ukraine in Zhytomyr region;

– the investigator of investigative management of General Directorate of national police in the Rivne region, which is now removed from office;

– senior investigator for particularly important cases Department of the counterintelligence Department of the security Service of Ukraine in Rivne region.

“Unfortunately, I can’t say that the surgery was finally done with “amber mafia”. At the moment, according to our operational data, the mafia was dealt a blow, and the operation of its liquidation proceeds”, – said the Prosecutor General.
