President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the Russian language is sort of a national treasure.
This opinion was expressed during a speech at the opening plenary session of the XIX world Congress of Russian press.
I want to emphasize that Russian language is not foreign to us. This is our national treasure. Belarusians in their long history have made a considerable contribution to its development, enriched it. Today in our country it has the status of a state on a par with Belarusian. This issue has been resolved by the people in a referendum, Lukashenka said.
The Belarusian President also noted that language, including Russian, helps to expand intellectual and informational horizons of cooperation between the two brotherly peoples.
“Russian language is our language. You arrived in the country, where they honor, respect, speak, and think in Russian. We are of course very pleased that in parallel we have done a lot to ensure that on the same level, which is Russian, to raise the Belarusian language. We are doing a lot. And you it does not should be alerted. This we will be rich,” — said Lukashenko.
