Starfall Leonids in 2017 can be seen from 14 to 21 November. Peak it reaches about 16-17 November.
Zvezdopad Leonids – intense meteor shower associated with the comet Tempel-Tuttle. The comet was discovered almost simultaneously by Ernst Tempel on December 19 1865 and by Horace Tuttle 6 Jan 1866 independently from each other. The comet, having a core diameter of 4 km closer to the Sun every 33 years, heating up and throwing himself a part of his substance.
The best time to see Leonid – after 4 o’clock in the morning, when the constellation Leo rises above the horizon in the East. This year the Moon will not prevent observation, as it is in the phase of new moon.
To observe the Leonids, however, like all other streams, preferably away from city lights.
