Latvia stood up for Ukraine in discussions around the law on education

The representatives of Latvia supported the vector, which is chosen by the Ukrainian officials.

The Minister of education and science of Latvia Karlis Sadurskis supported the position of Ukrainian authorities on the new education act, the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

“Steps of Ukraine to provide conditions for studying of the state language in the education system is clear,” said Sadurskis during a meeting with the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin.

Klimkin, in turn, noted the interest of Ukraine in the experience of the Latvian educational system with the use of languages of national minorities.

Recall that on 5 September the Verkhovna Rada has supported educational reform, the key innovations which became the 12-year-old school increase in teachers ‘ salaries and determination of the Ukrainian language as the language of the educational process.

However, the rate of language teaching for minorities has caused outrage with the authorities of neighbouring States, particularly Romania and Hungary. International partners are not satisfied that the grades 5-9 will be entered several items in the Ukrainian language of teaching.
