Kiev startup raised a record $110 million investment

Ukrainian startup Grammarly was first based in Kiev, which raised $110 during the public round

Grammarly is an intelligent online grammar checker service based on artificial intelligence technologies. The app improves the quality of written communication, taking into account the individual style of the user and its communicative purpose, offering fixes to make the text grammatically, stylistically and structurally correct.

The lead investor in the round was the General Catalyst Fund, the round also participated IVP, and Spark Capital.

The raised funds will focus on accelerating the growth of the company.

It is noteworthy that this is the first investment in a start – up that Grammarly did not attract foreign funds.

“We chose a group of investors with successful experience in building leading high-tech companies, and Internet companies focused on consumers. Experience and resources of investors will help accelerate the company’s growth in the near future,” – said in Grammarly.

The startup was founded by the Kiev Alexei Shevchenko, max Litvin and Dmitry Leader in 2009. The first version was created in Kiev. Today, the Grammarly team is over 100 people and the number of daily active users – 6.9 million

According to the company, only in April this year, Grammarly has offered more than 14 billion of improvements to the texts. Headquarters Grammarly is located in San Francisco, not so long ago the company opened its third office in new York.

By 2015, the service was available by subscription and in 2015 moved to a freemium model, then, according to the founders of the company, the number of users of Grammarly began to grow exponentially.
