Ukraine demands the withdrawal of occupation troops and the lack of Russians among the peacekeepers.
The Ministry of foreign Affairs called requirements, that are necessary for the introduction of the peacekeeping mission in the Donbass. They include the removal of occupation troops from the Donbass and the lack of Russian personnel in the mission.
This is stated in the commentary of the Ministry of foreign Affairs regarding the statement of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
“Any international peacekeeping presence must be entered, with the consent and after exhaustive consultations with the Ukrainian side, to provide for the withdrawal of all occupation troops and mercenaries and their weapons from the territory of Ukraine and to ensure reliable control of the Russian-Ukrainian border to prevent Russian soldiers, weapons, equipment and mercenaries on the territory of Ukraine. In the case of a decision on the introduction of peacekeeping operations (PKOs), there can be no question of the presence of military or other personnel of the aggressor party in the territory of Ukraine under the guise of peacekeepers, as that would be contrary to the basic principles of UN peacekeeping. Equally, there could be no question about obtaining consent for an OPM from illegal armed groups operating in the territory IDLO with the support, funding and logistical support from the Russian Federation”, – reported on the website of the foreign Ministry.
According to the foreign Ministry, Putin’s proposal to deploy peacekeepers only on the contact line distorts the idea of the introduction of the peacekeeping operation and would not serve the overriding goal of sustainable peace and restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Nevertheless, Ukraine is ready to discuss this issue, and the permanent mission of Ukraine to the UN was instructed to hold consultations with the delegations of the UN security Council.
The foreign Ministry also emphasizes that strict compliance with the Russian side of the ceasefire declared in late August, should create fertile ground for dialogue with the aim of placing the UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbass.
We will remind, that Ukraine is already two years asks to enter peacemakers to Donbass.
In September Poroshenko intends to raise again this question at the session of the UN General Assembly. Ukraine is ready to the three options for the introduction of peacekeepers: the police of the OSCE mission, the UN mission and the European police mission. The mission will be throughout the occupied territory of Donetsk and Lugansk regions, in the so-called “gray area” on the Ukrainian-Russian border.
