British botanists, members of the international Council for the protection of plants, counted the number of tree species on the planet.
To do this, scientists turned to hundreds of organizations consisting of the Council and obtained the number of 60 thousand.
In Brazil the species composition of trees is the most extensive. Almost 12% of all types fills the woods and forests of this country. The North American Alaska grows less kinds of trees. More than half of the counted trees have a clearly limited area and found nowhere else. Therefore, climate change and adverse human activities can lead to the destruction of trees.
Already today, under the threat of total destruction are 400 rare species. In Africa, for example, grow only six trees, referring to the Karomia gigas. According to botanists, the time has come for large-scale expeditions to collect seeds of rare species. This should assist the authorities and civil society organizations.
