Ukraine spends millions of dollars in international courts on disputes with Russia. The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine and “Naftogaz of Ukraine” for the years 2015-2016 paid the us law firm Covington&Burling more than $ 10 million for consulting and legal support of cases in international courts on disputes with Russia.

According to her, the foreign Ministry started cooperation with Covington&Burling in 2015.

Then to protect the interests of Ukraine in dispute with Russia regarding the interpretation and application of the Agreement between CMU and the government of the Russian Federation on encouragement and mutual protection of investments (1998) procurement of services of the company amounted to 0.3 million dollars. Then, it signed another agreement without specifying the cause.

“According to the documents in 2015, according to the agreement with the Ministry of foreign Affairs Covington&Burling was paid for work performed 1 077 108 USD. In 2016, the amount of payments under contracts with the Ministry of foreign Affairs amounted to 2 829 723 dollars,” the author writes.

Meanwhile, the “Naftogaz of Ukraine” in December of 2016 was held on negotiation procedure for the procurement of legal services related to the protection of the rights and interests of Ukraine on the claim in the UN international Tribunal on law of the sea. Defeated Covington & Burling. The amount of the contract amounted to 6.31 million dollars, and its validity, until 31 December 2017.

“Total, only the sum paid to one company, involved in the foreign Ministry and the NJSC “Naftogaz” for the provision of similar services is two years more than $ 10 million. It is also known that the budget of Ukraine for 2017 is provided 152.2 million UAH.
