Iraq plans to send troops to Kirkuk

The Kurds will be under intense pressure from the Iraqi side.

The Iraqi Parliament asked the Prime Minister to send troops to the Iraqi province of Kirkuk, which is not included in Iraqi Kurdistan, however, is controlled by Kurdish militias.

Kirkuk province is of interest both for the Kurds and the Central government of Iraq because of the oil deposits.

“The referendum should be cancelled and the dialogue should be conducted in the framework of the Constitution. We will never negotiate the results of the referendum,” — said the Prime Minister of Iraq Haidar al-Abadi and added that the Federal government intends to restore power in all districts of the Kurdish autonomy of the “power of the Constitution.”

Residents of Kirkuk took part in the recent referendum on independence along with the residents of Iraqi Kurdistan.
