Iran closed the border with the Kurdish region of Iraq

The border was closed at the request of the government of Iraq.

Iran closed the border with Iraqi Kurdistan in response to the referendum on independence for the region. This was stated press Secretary of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Iran Bahram ghasemi.

“At the request of the Iraqi government, we closed our land and air borders with Iraqi Kurdistan. The referendum is illegal and illegitimate,” said ghasemi.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani also said his country fully supported the Central government of Iraq.

Note, September 24 Iran has suspended all flights to Iraqi Kurdistan.
