Iran and Iraq signed an agreement on military cooperation

Iran and Iraq signed an agreement to enhance military cooperation and the fight against “terrorism and extremism”.

The Iranian defense Minister Hossein Dehghan and his Iraqi counterpart Irfan al-Hiyali signed a Memorandum of understanding, which also covers border security, logistics, and doctrine.

“The ongoing cooperation and exchange of experience in combating terrorism and extremism, border security, and educational, logistical, technical and military support among the provisions of this Memorandum,” – said in Tehran.

Iran-Iraq relations have improved since the overthrow in 2003 of Saddam Hussein, instead of which the authorities in Iraq it’s Shia government. Iran is mostly Shiite nation.

The President of the United States Donald trump had previously expressed concern about what he sees growing Iranian influence in the conflicts in Syria, Yemen and Iraq.

The tension between Iran and the United States has increased since the election trump, who has frequently accused Tehran of supporting militant groups and the destabilization of the region.
