Intel ceases production of Skylake processors

Programme on the elimination of Core i7-6700K and Core i5-6600K has already started this week.

Before the announcement of the eighth generation of Core processors for desktop systems remains less than a month, so there is nothing surprising in the fact that Intel began clearing the market position for these anticipated products. Last Tuesday the company has notified its partners that the supply of processors generation Skylake, primarily the flagship models of the Core i7-6700K and Core i5-6600K, will soon be discontinued. However, the new processors generation Kaby Lake, which came less than a year ago, and are compatible with the same motherboards on the market, one hundredth and two hundredth of the series, will remain in the price-sheet of the company and, accordingly, in stores.

According to the document, the popular company Intel programme on the elimination of Core i7-6700K and Core i5-6600K has already started this week. However, this does not mean that such processors will immediately disappear from the range of microprocessor giant. Standard practice assumes that customers of Intel have in stock several months, during which time the orders for closing its life cycle the processor will continue to be taken. So, Intel promises that with a strong desire to order the Core i7-6700K and Core i5-6600K will be possible until March 2018, and their delivery for pre-made orders can last until the following September. However, in retail, they probably won’t stay — after all, newer and running at a higher clock speed Core i7-7700K and Core i5-7600K inalaska in the price list are exactly the same.

But what can really be upset is because of the fact that at the same time with the senior Skylake stop the supply of Core i5-and Core i3 6402P-6098P that are similar to Core i5-6400 and Core i3-6100, but with a stripped-down to the level of GT1 (HD Graphics 510) graphics. Thus, the experiments Intel’s mass production of processors with the simplified built-in GPU or without it finally stopped. More in the range of Intel such proposals, marked with the letter P in the model number, will remain. No plans to release a similar CPU to continue: as part of a family Coffee Lake of such proposals is not provided.

We will remind, the new Core i7-8700K and Core i5-8600K, as well as four desktop models generation Coffee Lake will be announced on 5 October. New processors can easily replace the outside of the race overclocking Skylake as it will offer increased number of computing cores, but if there are more predecessors, then very little.
