Kiev, Odessa, Zaporozhye and Lutsk, where massively sick with measles
The luck of the outbreak of viral disease was recorded on 7 November. Then, once the five students who were in the same class, was diagnosed with measles. It was reported that four cases were not vaccinated.
“The emergence of the first diseases in Volyn is due to imported measles cases from the regions of Ukraine, where the disease recorded in the past year. In particular, Transcarpathian and Lviv regions”, – informs Volyn laboratory center of the Ministry of health.
The situation is even worse in Zaporozhye, where 7 of November there were 42 cases of measles: however, only 8 laboratory confirmed. Among the cases, 71% are children, high incidence rates are observed in the age group 7 to 9 years.
“Among those 60% are persons of a Romsky nationality who live in the Shevchenko district of the city”, – stated in the message on the website of Zaporizhzhya regional laboratory center of the Ministry of health of Ukraine.
Also, due to the measles outbreak in Zaporizhia were quarantined the high school where 17 children fell ill. By the way, the first in the school the teacher got sick, and already on 13 November, the symptoms had begun to manifest in schoolchildren.
Infectious disease was evident in Odessa, because of this, the city will spend an additional sanitization of public transport.
“In the period from 15 to 23 November will conduct additional sanitary processing is a requirement of our Department of transport carriers in the region. Now urgently needed additional sanitation of buses. We are talking about passenger transport, because without enhanced disinfection health risk to residents of Odessa region”, – reported in a press-service of regional administration.

Could this develop into an epidemic
It is noted that this year the incidence of measles in Ukraine has increased by 70% compared to last year. However, experts note that it is seasonal and absolutely normal for children’s groups. With the onset of cold weather and frosts measles needs to retreat.
“Measles is a seasonal thing, it happens every year in the autumn-winter period. It’s one thing when adults suffer from measles, there are more complications. And so, it’s an infection in children’s groups measles completely normal, immune and so next year will be less sick. If the mortality is not great, then as soon as the frosts hit, measles will decline. More it will not be exact because December on the nose, maybe, except that in the southern regions some more will increase”, – said Alexander karlovski, head of clinical diagnostic laboratory, hospital for infectious diseases, Institute of epidemiology and infectious diseases named gromashevskiy.
He also noted that outbreaks happen every year and happen with a certain frequency. Karlivs’kyi explained that as soon as the population weakens the immunity level starts the flash, which after is on the decline.
According to, honored doctor of Ukraine and the children’s infektsionist Sergey Kramarev, the number of cases throughout Ukraine will still be a little increase.
“Measles is a disease that is transmitted easily and quickly. So I think there will be other regions. Here in Kiev has increased the number in our hospital has two wards with the measles,” – said Kramarev.
How to protect yourself
Measles is an infectious disease that is transmitted by airborne droplets. The incubation period of the disease is in average of 8 to 14 days. From the outset, the measles can be easily confused with common respiratory infections.
“Measles is a first as a respiratory infection, you can think that you are sick with some cold, and after 3-5 days a rash appears. And people here in this state can walk to work, everywhere, and spread the measles. First, will cough, runny nose, fever. And when the rash appears, it is clear that the measles,” – says Sergey Kramarev.
The most reliable method to protect yourself the doctor calls the vaccination of other reliable methods of protection simply does not. Of course, you can not come into contact with disease vectors, but in our time it is difficult to make. However, to the extent possible, it is better to avoid large crowds of people.
However, as noted by Alexander karlovski, vaccination works only if all are vaccinated.
“Vaccination solves any problems. But the social problems it cannot solve. Yes, people get sick, but the vaccine is not 100% protects, so it can be a source for some time. The vaccine works when all vaccinated, and when one is vaccinated, but many – no, not the fact that it works,” notes karlivs’kyi.
He also explains that the disease is actively spread due to social conditions, when schools and kindergartens facilities are overcrowded and poorly ventilated.
“We have set up many homes and schools and kindergartens is not enough, therefore, in classes of 30 people. That’s all transmission. Due to the fact that it’s cold, classes are not ventilated, that is another reason. All sit in the same room, each person per minute 5-6 liters breathe. In 40 minutes there is little oxygen, and the contact is quite dense, so a 100% chance to get sick, especially if the immune system is weak,” says the doctor.
